From 5th to 7th. From June 1 to 3, the international campaign “ Rendez-vous aux jardins ” ( Date in the Gardens ) will take place in the garden of the Horticultural Institute in Dobele, inviting visitors to explore the garden as a place for well-being, cognition, movement, and creativity.

This year, the Horticultural Institute joins more than 2,800 European parks and gardens that open their doors to visitors on the first weekend of June. At the same time, this event will be the start of a new Interactive Gardens initiative , which will allow everyone to explore the garden through four cognitive paths.

Discover the garden!

Can a garden help with well-being and health? What plants have shaped the world of Latvian flavors in different periods of history? What can you grow for healthy eating in your garden? How does gardening help biodiversity and adapt to climate change?

It will be possible to find answers to these questions along four thematic routes:

  • Gardens for well-being and health
  • Vegetable plants in the historical periods of Latvia
  • Vegetables for a healthy diet basket
  • Vegetable growing systems - for biodiversity in climate change

At the entrance to the garden, visitors will receive a special card and will be able to go on a thematic walk at their own pace, discovering the closest and most current topic to them. The garden territory is equipped with educational stands, thematic stops and variety labels, which allow not only to enjoy nature, but also to gain new knowledge, be inspired for a healthier lifestyle and look at the garden as a place where nature, science and people meet.

About the “Date in the Garden” campaign

The international campaign "Rendez-vous aux jardins" has been held every year on the first weekend of June in France and elsewhere in Europe since 2003, drawing attention to the diversity of gardens and parks, their cultural and historical significance, and the human connection with nature.

This year's theme, "Five Senses in the Garden: Vision," calls attention to how a garden can be experienced through colors, shapes, landscapes, and observations of details.
