There are two varieties with the same name 'Rubin'. One is a winter variety, created in the Czech Republic and grown in warmer European countries up to Lithuania, mainly in organic gardens. The other, in turn, was obtained in Kazakhstan, ripens in autumn and is grown in commercial gardens in Latvia. To avoid misunderstandings, the name of the country of origin is often added to the name of the variety, but not always. Both varieties have a common, difficult-to-care-for tree crown, but that's where the similarity ends. The Kazakh 'Rubin' produces exceptionally large, pink and tasty apples, but is not resistant to scab, and the fruits turn brown during storage. The fruits of the Czech 'Rubin' are striped, very tasty, but not so large and suffer little from scab. You can also see the other variety in this garden quarter.
