Uzcītīgais Dunkers

A tribute to a persistent and creative personality: Oļģerts Dunkers.

PēterisUpītis had a close friendship with the Latvian actor Oļģerts Dunkers. Pēteris often visited Oļģerts in Vidzeme, and a small lilac garden of lilac cultivars gifted to him by Upītis attest to this. One day, visiting the gardener with the Latvian actor KārlisSebris, Upītis announced that he would be dedicating the new lilac cultivar to Dunkers: "I was thinking that 'Kinorežisors Dunkers' [“Film Director Dunkers”] would be the right name for it, but UldisZemzars visited here a couple of days ago, and he suggested 'Uzcītīgais Dunkers' [“Diligent Dunkers”]. He likes your persistence and determination in directing films. That is why this lilac has this name."
