Imants Ziedonis has said that the epithet of this lilac was chosen for a reason. PēterisUpītis had had a sweetheart in Jaunkalsnava – Nadežda Zariņa – and this cultivar is a tribute to her. Alas, the love story ended sadly, with a dramatic parting at night, at the crossroads in Jaunkalsnava. The blossoms of the lilac are violet-blue and lighter in the middle, reminding of a starry midnight sky. The lilac blossoms relatively late; the plant is very strong, with sturdy shoots.
