Lilac variety 'Opera Legend Kārlis Zariņš' naming ceremony
During the peak of lilac flowering, on May 24, the naming ceremony of the lilac variety 'Opera Legend Kārlis Zariņš' took place!
The variety is a tribute and gratitude of the Institute of Horticulture to the outstanding tenor of the Latvian National Opera and professor of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, Kārlis Zariņš. The legendary artist supported the original idea of the Lilac Concerts and participated in the creation of the first concerts.
The Lilac Garden of the Horticultural Institute currently has around 300 varieties of lilacs, and it is the most significant lilac collection in Europe.
