Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Institute of Horticulture , visitors are invited to discover the stories of the most important varieties bred at the institute in the exhibition “80 Years of Perseverance.” It will reveal not only the characteristics and achievements of the varieties, but also the people, work and perseverance behind each of them.

Breeder Pēteris Upītis once said:
"Those who work with seedlings need patience. Those who don't have patience should not engage in fruit growing, but should buy rockets and organize fireworks. The effect will be achieved immediately."

These words accurately describe the essence of selection – long-term work, faith in the result, and perseverance over many years.

Unlike the usual descriptions of the characteristics of varieties, the exhibition will allow you to get to know the breeders, the path of horticultural plants in Latvia, and the achievements that we are still proud of today.

Behind each breed lies more than numbers and a list of characteristics – they are personal stories, life stories and also unexpected curiosities. The exhibition allows us to see what usually remains unsaid – the time, work and people who have shaped the breeds we know and love.

Exhibition opening: May 15 at 4:00 PM

The exhibition will be visible as you walk along the main path, behind the large gazebo.
