'The Versatile Branch'
A versatile personality, the lilac of the painter Uldis Zemzars.
Uldis Zemzaris was a close friend of Pēteris Upītis. Pēteris Upītis met the versatile personality – painter, writer, author of many books – when he accompanied the writer Zigmunds Skujiņš to the garden. Uldis Zemzaris painted two portraits of Pēteris Upītis, one of which is a painting with a thistle – the same one whose seeds Pēteris Upītis had given to the artist.
In the Lilac Garden, as a testament to eternal friendship, there is a purple-violet lilac named after Zemzara. It is characterized by large flowers, large inflorescences and abundant flowering.
