'The Little Prince'
After graduating from the Priekuļi Agricultural School, Pēteris Upītis studied on his own in several European countries, including France, which he visited before World War II to learn about wineries and horticulture. From then on, he was fascinated by French art, music, and literature, including the works of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Pēteris Upītis has called plant breeding "befriending plants, taming them." The white lilac called "Mazais Princis" is proof of this. The lilac's flower buds are a distinctive greenish-white, the flowers are distinctly aromatic. The lilac blooms moderately early and very abundantly. In addition, the bushes are compact in shape and easy to shape.
