'Pearl Fisherman'

A dedication to the work included in the Latvian cultural canon and its author – Jānis Porukas.

Pēteris Upītis was well-versed in Latvian literature; the works of the poet and prose writer Jānis Porukas were particularly popular in the Upītis family. Pēteris' brother Augusts Upītis also used to quote Porukas' poems when visiting Dobele.

Ceriņš's 'Pearl Fisherman' is a tribute to the great poet. “(..) I am nothing but a pearl fisherman who has descended into these infinite depths of the world to catch so many pearls that I could buy myself the right to live in another world. I know that I am immortal, I know that I am a collaborator with the universe, with everything that was, is and will be; now another world will smile at me: I must leave this one; I have loved, I have found so many pearls that I can return to where we all came from – to divinity; I lay my find at her feet; I have found here greatness, love, truth in dreams and dreams in reality. Everything is in harmony, as if everything were a huge symphony, where everyone plays along.”
