'Iman Ziedonis'

The other name of the variety is 'Nerimtīgas Ziedonis'.

This breed is a tribute to the poet, about whom the breeder has said: "It is a miracle that our small nation has such a great poet."

Pēteris Upīte himself is best described by a quote from Imants Ziedonis' unpublished work about the brilliant breeder: "It turns out that I breed lilacs. But you can breed anything, you can breed a cultivated lilac from a spikelet, from nettles, and from dandelions. From any weed. I wouldn't call them weeds either. How can you say about a wild apple tree - "no tree"? There are no trees and weeds, there are trees and grasses and bushes. I take plants that are favorable to me and domesticate them. We will become more and more friendly. Breeding is friendship, making friends. Breeding is not violence. It is an agreement."

The flower buds of this lilac are dark purple. The flowers are large with distinctively upturned petal tips, which gives the inflorescences a unique appearance.
