'The Dreamer of Dobele'

A traveler's dream, allowing you to enjoy the largest Lilac Garden in the Baltics!

The remarkable gardener was an artist at heart, interested in photography, poetry and music. In his dreams, the great master imagined Latvia as a lilac country. It could be said that this has come true, because so many lilacs bloom nowhere else than in Latvia. Lilacs have been known in Latvia since the 19th century, and the Balto-Germans have made a great contribution to their spread, including the Balto-German priest Augusts Bīlenšteins, the first notable plant collector in Dobele.

Thanks to Upītis, Dobele has become the lilac capital of Latvia.
