The lilac varieties bred at the Horticultural Institute received their names today, May 20th.

The purple lilac 'Emīlija' is named in honor of the mother of poet Aleksandrs Čakas, whose birthplace is in Naudīte, Dobele region. The other purple lilac will henceforth bear the name of writer Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš.

We would like to thank the Aleksandrs Čakas and Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš Museum for their cooperation!

It should be noted that the Lilac Garden of the Horticultural Institute currently has around 245 lilac varieties, and it is the largest lilac collection in the Baltic States and the European Union.
