Greetings on August 19 - World Photography Day!
Today, August 19, is World Photography Day, so this time we would like to commemorate Pēteris Upītis' younger brother – Augusts Upītis (1906-2004), who was a professional photographer and is this month's name day celebrant. Augusts himself once said that thanks to his name, we can celebrate name day all month long.

Since the breeder Pēteris Upītis was not only interested in gardening and selection, but also in photography, Pēteris encouraged his younger brothers — Augusts and Valdemārs — to turn to photography. The occupation separated the brothers. Augusts Upītis continued his life abroad. When he went as a refugee to America, he also took a camera with him.
The skills of a professional photographer and his sociable nature helped Augusts settle in America faster and better. After working for only one year on a farmer's farm, then in a photo laboratory, Augusts opened his own company “Upītis Color Studio” in 1962. In parallel with working in his own studio, he also worked for the company “Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp” for 30 years. In 1973, he received the highest title of a master of photography, “Master of Photography”. He constantly improved his skills by participating in professional competitions, in which he received awards and recognition. Augusts tried to help his brothers by sending “Kodak” color photographic materials.
This is considered a unique case when three brothers in a family become professional photographers. The Upīši brothers' family of photographers continues, Augusts Upīšis' son Alvis is also a professional photographer and diligently continues the work his father started in the USA.
