This spring, with the support of the Dobele Municipality Cultural Projects, a pilot project “Enrichment of informative material on Pēters Upītis lilac garden varieties” was implemented, within the framework of which informative decorative plaques characterizing the 21 most important lilac varieties bred in Latvia were made and installed.

Currently, the project "Development and improvement of accessibility of the outdoor exhibition of the Pēters Upītis Horticultural Museum" is underway within the framework of the Zemgale Cultural Program 2021, supported by the Latvian State Forests and the State Cultural Capital Fund, continuing to improve the outdoor exhibition of the P. Upītis Horticultural Museum.

Small plastic signs with the names of the varieties have been attached to lilac bushes and individual cherries, which are not long-lasting and do not provide garden visitors with complete information. The project aims to create more informative and long-lasting signs.

Considering that most people visit the garden during the lilac flowering and cherry harvest periods, the project will produce and install 150 informative and decorative plaques of lilac and cherry varieties with the following important indicators: variety name, botanical classification, breeder, year of selection, variety description, variety visualization – an image that provides information about the respective variety during times when there is no lilac flowering period or cherry harvest time.
